Take a fresh look at your finances this year

In a bid to help local people to keep their festive finances in check, Mole Valley Housing Association (MVHA) and the Citizens Advice Bureau (CAB), are encouraging residents to kick start 2012 by getting their finances in order rather than wait until the Christmas credit card bills hit the postbox.

MVHA is offering free independent advice to help all its residents with their money and debt concerns. Residents can also learn how to budget and stay on top of their finances in meetings with CAB advisor Liz Hyam, who already has a proven track record of helping 370 MVHA residents deal with more than £300,000 of debt and get focused.

“The new year should be about starting fresh and looking forward,” says Liz. “Get help early for debt problems, they don’t go away by themselves. So, if you’re getting into trouble, act quickly and seek advice about how to deal with them.”

David Searle, managing director of MVHA, added: “With the financial downturn making things tighter every day, this time of year can really be tough. We want to make residents aware that there is independent, friendly and free support available. We are here for our residents and this service helps anyone who has questions about their finances and in particular people who are struggling.”

About Mole Valley Housing Association’s partnership work with the Citizens Advice Bureau
MVHA, part of Circle Housing Group, successfully joined forces with the CAB and is funding the independent advice and support service to help residents of its 3,500 homes across the area. This service is also available to MVHA leaseholders.

Residents can obtain online help and advice in dealing with their debts and other issues via the CAB website www.adviceguide.org.uk

A CAB advisor is running a trial Workshop in on Jan 20th in the Goodwyns area covering topics such as personal budgeting, understanding Benefits and the real cost of borrowing. Depending on how this goes further opportunities will be available for all MVHA residents who are interested in joining in.
